Content Creation - Google Sketchup
Welcome to the Tutorial for creating content in Google Sketchup
Please read the information below before starting.
Things you will need...Trainz Asset Creation Studio: http://www.auran.com/trainz/contentcreation.htm Google Sketchup 8: http://sketchup.google.com/intl/en/download/index.html |
Important Note! You will need to PRO version for the 3DS Export, if you don't have the Pro version you won't be able to do this tutorial sorry.
|
Step 1
Prepare your model in Google Sketchup, I am using a simple box for an example.
Step 2
Click on File, then Export, Then 3D Graphic
Step 3
Export it to somewhere easy to find such as the desktop, make sure the file type saved is 3DS.
Step 4
Close Google Sketchup and open up Trainz Asset Creation Studio
Step 5
Click file, then click import, then import your exported 3DS file. It should appear.
Step 6
Create a file on your desktop name it by the name of your model, in my case "box".
Step 7
Go back to your imported model in Trainz Asset Creation studio, then click File, Then click Export, then export it to the file you created. You MUST put .im at the end of the name you save it as. For example: Box.im
Step 8
This stuff should be in your new folder. For each texture you used in Google Sketchup, a new text document will be created for it. However, the actual textures you used will be wherever you exported the model from Trainz Asset Creation Studio. You will need to drag the texture from the desktop into the new folder.
Step 8 Continued...
Note: For this tutorial, a JPG file is used. Please use JPG in your model too. If you wish to use another file type, instead of putting .jpg in the "primary=" field, put whatever file type you wish to use.
Step 9
The amount of Text Documents and JPG files you have in your folder depends on how many textures you used. I've only used one. Anyway, now you'll have to open the Text Document/s which end in .texture...
Step 10
There may be a bunch of random symbols which appear after the Primary=
You must erase the symbols and replace it with the texture which it matches with. Like below.....
You must erase the symbols and replace it with the texture which it matches with. Like below.....
If you used a .bmp file, then type Material.bmp, same with TGA and so on.
Note: If you have multiple textures, you will need to repeat the process with all of them.
Hazard!
The text document could be named aterial.texture instead of Material.texture.
So, if you have a texture file named Brick, it's TEXT DOCUMENT match would be rick.texture.

Step 11
Now to export it into Trainz Content Manager....
Open up Content Manager and click File, then New Asset.
A folder should appear with a text document named config in it.
Open up Content Manager and click File, then New Asset.
A folder should appear with a text document named config in it.
Step 12
Open the config file and copy this under the information that is already in YOUR document.

END OF TUTORIAL
Doesn't Work? Then ensure you have covered the checklist. If you have covered everything in the checklist and your model still doesn't work, either read through the tutorial again carefully or... |
CHECKLIST- Have changed the KUID number to the KUID of the asset, not the KUID number of the tutorial example
- Have put the correct file type in the texture text document files, for example... "Primary= texture.tga" would match a TGA file named "texture" - Have ensured that the tag "asset-filename" in the config file doesn't have ".im" after the title of the .im file - Have ensured that the textures are a power of 2, for example... 64 x 64 128 x 128 256 x 256 512 x 512 1024 x 1024 128 x 256 |
